Fungi With Landscape
As part of my exploration of the diverse world of fungi, this series introduces the natural world and landscapes where fungi thrives. Where rotting trees and rocks are covered with various types of fungi such as lichen and other polypores.
Sumi Ink on Paper
This collection explores the intricate textures of fungi and decaying life forms, inspired by photographs taken during nature walks and hikes. Using sumi ink on paper, this series emphasizes texture and detail through monochromatic drawings, allowing the natural forms to emerge without the distraction of color. Included are ink drawings of other plants supported by this fungi cycle of decay and renewal.

This project started with a small ink spill and became an exploration of texture and mark-making with ink on handmade cotton paper.

For the past twenty years, I have called the enchanting island of Puerto Rico my home. Its breathtaking landscapes and vibrant natural beauty have been a constant source of inspiration for my art. Much of my creative exploration has centered around the mangroves, which play a vital role in protecting Puerto Rico’s coastline. These intricate ecosystems not only shield the shores but also provide a sanctuary for countless species of plants and animals that flourish within their tangled roots, embodying the island’s enduring connection between land, water, and spirit.

Owls
I have always been drawn to owls and their symbolism of wisdom, mystery, and silent observation. I chose the owl as a subject to explore color, texture, and mixed media, specifically experimenting with dry and wet media to discover how they interact on the surface. This body of work represents an early stage in my artistic journey as a student, when I began to develop my visual language through curiosity and experimentation.
Female figures with chalk pastels
This project features a series of women rendered in chalk pastels and gouache, exploring the realities of female inequality and struggle. My intention was to capture the strength and vulnerability of women in a predominately patriarchal society. The softness of the pastels, contrasted with the weight of this subject matter, creates a compelling visual tension; symbolizing resilience amidst constraint, a struggle that continues to hold a powerful presence in our society today.
