Artist Statement
My work is an exploration of the earth from underneath. I love to get low down to the ground and see what’s there. The subterranean world of forests, mangroves, and even urban gardens is fascinating to me. Down below fungi play a crucial role in the processes of decay. Though fungi are often seen as decomposers of dying lifeforms, I see them rather as a vital part of the transformation back to the earth. I am drawn to the textures of rotting trees, the delicate forms of mushrooms, and the complex structures of lichen, seeing them as metaphors for life's cycles of renewal and interdependence.
My art seeks to reveal the hidden ecosystems and often unseen beauty that emerge from what is often overlooked or considered imperfect, inviting viewers to find harmony in nature's constant cycle of growth and decay.
